The last weekend of April marks the beginning of Trout Season here in Michigan, but for Trumble boys it marks the beginning of manhood.
Every year since my father was a little boy, and even before, the descendants of Dale Trumble (my paternal grandfather) have headed north on "The Fishing Trip." It is a right of passage for us boys. When you reach 5 years old and can mostly handle yourself throughout the day, you are old enough to join the big boys for a weekend of fishing, eating well, pocket-knifing, swamp exploration, and other...well...things we don't tell mother ;-)
This is a photo from 2011's Fishing Trip. Here my cousins and I are exploring the cedar swamp near the cottage. We had a fantastic time jumping from log to log over the water.
